Every week someone sends me a screenshot of an SEO proposal and asks the same thing: "Is this a fair price?" Usually it's either ₹4,999 a month for "complete SEO" or ₹1,20,000 a month for a deck full of words like synergy and holistic visibility. Both can be wrong. Neither tells you what you're actually buying.

So here's the honest version of SEO cost in India in 2026 — real SEO charges, what each budget buys, and where the money quietly disappears.

Quick Answer: How Much Does SEO Cost in India?

In 2026, SEO cost in India typically ranges from ₹15,000 to ₹1,00,000 per month depending on your competition, city and goals. Monthly SEO packages for small businesses and local SEO usually sit between ₹15,000 and ₹30,000. Mid-level SEO pricing for growing e-commerce and service brands runs ₹30,000 to ₹60,000 a month. Competitive national or enterprise SEO starts at ₹75,000 and can cross ₹2,00,000. Freelance SEO charges run roughly ₹800 to ₹3,000 per hour, and one-off project work — an audit, a migration, a site rebuild — usually costs ₹25,000 to ₹1,50,000.

SEO Price in India by Budget Tier (2026)

Monthly budgetWho it suitsWhat it realistically includes
₹8,000 – ₹15,000Very small local business, single locationGoogle Business Profile, basic on-page fixes, 1-2 blog posts, minimal link work
₹15,000 – ₹30,000Local SEO packages, clinics, salons, small service brandsTechnical fixes, local citations, 3-4 content pieces, review strategy, monthly reporting
₹30,000 – ₹60,000D2C, e-commerce, multi-service companiesFull technical SEO, keyword clusters, 6-8 content pieces, digital PR outreach, CRO input
₹60,000 – ₹1,00,000Competitive categories, multi-city targetingDedicated strategist, programmatic/category pages, serious link acquisition, AI search optimisation
₹1,00,000+Enterprise, marketplaces, funded brandsTeam of specialists, engineering support, international or multi-language SEO

The pattern to notice: as the budget rises, you're not buying more keywords. You're buying more senior attention and more execution hours.

SEO Charges in India by Pricing Model

ModelTypical India rate (2026)Best for
Monthly retainer₹15,000 – ₹1,00,000+/monthOngoing growth, most businesses
Hourly (freelancer/specialist)₹800 – ₹3,000/hourConsulting, audits, training your team
Project-based₹25,000 – ₹1,50,000Site migration, one-time audit, new site launch
Local SEO package₹10,000 – ₹25,000/monthSingle-city or single-location businesses
Performance / rank-basedVaries, often riskyRarely worth it — see below

Agencies price higher because you're funding a team and an office. A specialist prices lower because you're funding one person's hours. Neither is automatically better value — I broke down that trade-off in freelancer vs agency vs consultant.

Why Cheap SEO Packages Are the Most Expensive Option

The ₹4,999 and ₹7,999 "affordable SEO packages" you see advertised in India aren't a smaller version of good SEO. They're a different product entirely. At that price the provider can afford maybe three to four hours of junior time a month, so the work becomes whatever can be automated: bulk directory submissions, spun blog posts, comment links, a PDF report full of vanity graphs.

That work doesn't just underperform. Low-quality links and thin AI-spun content can actively hold a site back, and cleaning up a spammy link profile later costs more than doing it properly the first time. If a proposal promises guaranteed #1 rankings or a fixed number of backlinks per month, treat both as warnings — nobody controls Google's rankings, and link counts are not a quality measure.

What Actually Drives Your SEO Cost Up or Down

  • Competition in your category — a local physiotherapist and a national insurance aggregator need entirely different budgets
  • The state of your site — an old, slow, poorly structured site needs technical work before content can do anything
  • How many cities or languages you target — multi-city SEO multiplies the page and content workload
  • Content volume — content is usually the single largest line item in any honest SEO quote
  • Link acquisition — genuine digital PR and editorial links cost real money; cheap links cost you later
  • Whether AI search is in scope — showing up in AI Overviews and ChatGPT answers is now a separate workstream

That last point matters more every quarter. A growing share of searches now end without a click, so optimising only for blue links leaves value on the table — I covered what's changing in why your website traffic dropped.

How Long Before SEO Pays Back?

Realistically: three to six months for early movement, six to twelve months for meaningful, compounding traffic in a competitive category. A useful way to judge the spend is to compare it to what the same money would buy in ads. If a click in your category costs ₹40 on Google Ads, then a page ranking organically for a 1,000-search-a-month keyword is worth several times your monthly SEO fee — but only after it ranks. Ads bill you every month forever; SEO front-loads the cost and then keeps working. You can see how the ad side prices out in Google Ads cost in India.

This is why I usually tell smaller businesses to run both: paid for cash flow now, SEO for margin later. That's the same logic behind how I think about performance marketing generally — you pay for outcomes, not activity. If you're still getting your bearings, start with what is digital marketing: meaning, types and examples.

What a Fair SEO Proposal Should Contain

  • Specific deliverables with quantities — how many pages, how many content pieces, how many hours
  • Named business outcomes, not just rankings — leads, calls, revenue, qualified traffic
  • A technical audit before any commitment to a retainer
  • Transparency on who does the work and how senior they are
  • Clear reporting: Search Console and analytics data, not a branded PDF of vanity metrics
  • No guarantees of rankings, and no fixed monthly backlink quota

FAQs

How much does SEO cost in India per month in 2026?+

SEO cost in India typically ranges from ₹15,000 to ₹1,00,000 per month in 2026. Local SEO packages for small businesses run ₹15,000 to ₹30,000, mid-level e-commerce and service brands pay ₹30,000 to ₹60,000, and competitive national campaigns start around ₹75,000 a month.

What are typical freelance SEO charges in India?+

Freelance and independent SEO specialists in India charge roughly ₹800 to ₹3,000 per hour, or ₹15,000 to ₹50,000 per month on retainer. One-off projects such as an audit or a site migration usually cost ₹25,000 to ₹1,50,000 depending on site size.

Are cheap SEO packages under ₹10,000 worth it?+

Usually not. At under ₹10,000 a month a provider can only afford a few hours of junior work, which tends to mean bulk directory links and thin content. That work rarely ranks and low-quality links can actively hurt your site, making cleanup more expensive than doing it properly.

What is included in a monthly SEO package in India?+

A fair monthly SEO package includes a technical audit and fixes, keyword research, on-page optimisation, a defined number of content pieces, genuine link or digital PR outreach, local listing management if relevant, and transparent reporting from Search Console and analytics.

How long does SEO take to show results in India?+

Expect early movement in three to six months and meaningful compounding traffic in six to twelve months. Low-competition local keywords can move faster; competitive national terms take longer and need consistent content and links.

Is SEO cheaper than Google Ads in India?+

SEO costs more upfront and pays back later, while Google Ads bills you for every click but delivers traffic immediately. Most Indian businesses get the best result running both: ads for immediate leads and SEO to reduce the long-term cost per acquisition.
